The first BIBL champion returns to the competition
A familiar face returns to perform in SIGAL-UNIQA Balkan League. BC Rilski Sportist is one of the most successful teams to have played in the competition.
The Samokov club is the first champion of the league. Back in 2009 Rilski defeated Rabotnicki in the Final to lift the trophy in front of its own fans.
Rilski has also played two more finals in the competiton. The first one was back in 2011 when the team lost to the Final 4 host Feni Industries in Kavadarci. Then in the squad′s last participation in BIBL so far, they lost to KB Sigal Prishtina in two games.
Back in 2013 Rilski Sportist hosted the Final 4 for a second time but the team came short in the semifinal against Levski before beating Kumanovo to finish third. The Samokov squad has also gone to the quarterfinals twice in 2010 and 2012 which without doubt makes it one of most successful in the history of the competition.
The current head coach of Rilski Sportist is Ludmil Hadjisotirov. It will be his second season at the helm of the team having been an assistant to Rosen Barchovski before that, including in that 2014/2015 season.
