Domestic leagues: Rilski lost the derby, easy for Levski and Akademik
BC Rilski Sportist lost the derby at the top in Bulgarian league. The Samokov team visited Balkan and was beaten 78-83 in a tight finish. Rilski had a great chance to win as the team was up by 6 with four minutes to go. Balkan however answered with a quick 8-0 run and after finishing the game on a 13-2 managed to win it.
Travis Taylor had 18 points and 10 rebounds for Rilski as Derek Wright added 15 points.
As expected Levski Lukoil took an easy 96-70 win over the young team of Academic. The Blues started the game with 16 straight points and were never troubled.
Nikolay Stoyanov and Justin Knox had 14 points apiece for the win as Keith Clanton added a triple-double of 11 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists.
BC Akademik Bultex 99 recorded its fifth straight win after downing Beroe 85-53 at home. It was an even first quarter but in the second the hosts made a 9-0 run to pull away. From then on Akademik dominated and had another win.
Martin Durchev had 18 points for the home side as Adriyan Sekulov added 12. Aleksandar Gruev had 10 points in his debut while Isiah Umipig also had the same scoring night.
After 16 rounds Rilski Sportist, Levski Lukoil and Akademik Bultex 99 are second, third and fourth respectively with the same 11-5 record.
