Beroe downs Blokotehna for six in a row

BC Beroe remains the only unbeaten team in the Balkan League. The Stara Zagora side hosted KK Blokotehna in the big match of the week and recorded its 6th victory in as many games after winning 91-81. The hosts took advantage in the second quarter and managed to control it after that despite missing key players like Conner Frankamp and Dallin Bachynski. On Thursday Beroe will try to make it 7 in a row when the team will host Bashkimi and with a win at 99% will guarantee its place in the Final Four. Blokotehna now has 4-2 record and the team′s next game is next week against Barsy Atyrau at home.

As expected both teams started strong on offense and not so much on defense. They scored a total of 49 points in the first quarter as Beroe led by just 1. The team that was the first to improve its defense was the home one and that reflected on the scoreboard. In the second quarter The Greens managed to pull away as by using mini-runs took a 9-point edge. 

The third quarter was pretty much as the first one as both sides scored a lot. However Beroe managed to control the difference and didn′t allow Blokotehna to come close as the margin was around 10 points. After 30 minutes it was 13 and at the start of the last quarter the visitors tried to change something. They started it with a 5-0 run but Beroe responded quickly and held on until the end.

Nikolay Stoyanov and Trenton Coggins stepped up for the home side finishing as top scorers with 18 points apiece. Tihomir Zhelev also did well with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists while Aleksandar Yanev was close to a triple-double adding 10, 11 and 8 respectively.

The visitors were led by Brandon Penn who finished with game high 22 points. Danilo Mijatovic added 19 points as Povilas Gaidys had a double-double with 17 and 10 rebounds. The visitors missed their main point guard Marjan Mladenovikj and that also affected their performance.
