Domestic cups: Beroe very close to the final, Academic Bultex 99 is far away
BC Beroe is really close for securing its second Bulgarian Cup final in three years. in Game 1 of the semifinals The Greens defeated Academic Sofia 84-67 at home to get a good advantage before the away leg.
Beroe started the game with more confidence and took an early 9-2 lead. The visitors got closer but not for long as after ten minutes the difference was 7 points. In the second quarter the hosts did better, pulled away by 16 points and controlled the match in the second half.
ALeksandar Yanev and Trenton Coggins had 15 points apiece for the winners as Tihomir Zhelev added 14.
In the meantime Academic Bultex 99 is almost without a chance after losing 74-92 away to Levski Lukoil. After a close first half the visitors got in foul trouble in the third quarter when the hosts pulled away by 10. In the final quarter they increased the advantage and left the Plovdiv side with little hopes of reaching the big final.
Vasil Bachev was the top scorer for Academic with 17 points as Troy Franklin scored 16.
