Russia is the new European basketball champion. Last night in Lodz in the final game of the Eurobasket 2011 for women, they defeated Turkley 59:42 in order to get the gold medals.
Maria Stepanova had a solid performance for Russia - 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Elena Danilochkina added 12 points in the winning effort. Biser Vardarili scored 10 points for Turkey in their loss.
The Balkan participants in Eurobasket - Croatia and Montenegro finished 5th and 6th.
Elena Danilochkina of Russia was voted MVP of the tournament, while Croatia′s Sandra Mandir was chosen in the All-Tournament team.News
