Hapoel Galil-Gilboa is the third team from Israel that sent an official request to participate in the 2011/2012 EUROHOLD Balkan League. Galil-Gilboa is one of the strongest Israeli teams in the last years.

Galil-Gilboa, under the name Hapoel Galil-Elyon became the first team to break Maccabi′s championship reign, winning the title back in 1993, becoming the first club based outside of Tel-Aviv to win the title. Pini Gershon (currently Head of Management at Hapoel Holon) was the head coach back then, and one of the referees was the current Sports Director of the BIBL - Shay Shtriks.

Galil has gained the nickname "The Israeli Basketball College", as some of Israel′s most succesful basketball players have played for the team - names such as Oded Kattash, Lior Eliyahu, Doron Sheffer, Nadav Henefeld and more.

Other notable names that have played for the team are Rimantas Kaukenas, Jamie Arnold, Omri Casspi and Christian Dalmau.

Currently Lior Lubin is the team′s head coach.
