Feni defeated Mornar after OT and got a 1-0 lead in ther series Jarrid Frye

The defending EUROHOLD Balkan League champion - KK Feni Industries defeated KK Mornar Bar at home in Jasmin Hall - 92:85 after overtime and got a 1-0 lead in the quarterfinal play-off series. The second game is in Montenegro next week.

 

Feni started the game strong, as Jarrid Frye converted an and-one play and Dusan Knezevic scored two baskets in the paint, giving Feni a 7:0 lead with 7 minutes to go in the first. The defending BIBL champions continued to press and Kiril Nikolovski scored four consecutive points, giving Feni an 11:0 lead which forced Mihailo Pavicevic to take a time-out for Mornar with 5.29 on the clock. Filip Barovic scored the first points for Mornar, and Lazar Radosavljevic added four, extending the run to 6-0, and cutting the deficit to five – 11:6 with four minutes left. Mornar performed good in the following moments, as they managed to decrease Feni’s lead to three – first 13:10 and then 15:12. The Montenegrin side were trailing by 2 after 10 minutes – 21:19.

 

Mornar managed to keep their momentum going entering the second period and quickly tied the score – 24:24 with 7.20 to go. However in the next three and a half minutes Feni went on a strong run – scoring 9 points against just 2 for Mornar, and leading by 7 – 33:26 with 3.49 to go, which forced Mihailo Pavicevic to take another time-out. The visitors quickly erased the difference down to 3 – 33:30, before Feni would break ahead once again as Ivan Lilov made two free-throws and Marko Simonovski scored two three-pointers giving Feni a 41:31 lead 1.16 before halftime. Halfway through the game the defending champions were ahead by 12 points – 45:33.

 

Right after the start of the second half Feni increased their lead to a game-high so far 16 points – 49:33. However Mornar started to erase the margin step by step, as halfway through the third period they managed to bring the gap down to single digits, after an 13:6 run – 55:46 with 5.11 to go. Michael Singletary converted an and-one play, bringing his team within six points – 55:49 with 3.54 remaining. Ivan Lilov made a three for 58:49, but Michael Singletary scored for 58:51, as this was the start of a 8-0 Mornar run, which made the score 58:57, 54 seconds before the end of the third period. After 30 minutes of play Feni were ahead by three – 60:57.

 

Feni got off to a good start in the fourth period, scoring 5 points and allowing only 2, as they led by 6 – 65:59 with 7.34 to go. The home team extended their lead to eight points (67:59) after a basket by Knezevic, but Mornar quickly answered with four straight points, decreasing  the difference to 67:63. Feni scored four points (2 made FT by Lilov and a lay-up by Frye), against six for Mornar (four by Jelenic and two by Singletary), and so the score was 71:69 with 3.33 remaining. Knezevic made two free-throws (73:69), before Akeem Scott scored a three – 73:72 with 2.26 left in the fourth. Jarrid Frye made it 75:72 right after that, but Lazar Radosavljevic tied the game with a three – 75:75, 1.41 before the end.

 

Ivan Lilov made two free-throws for 77:75, before Ivan Jelenic scored for 77:77 with 57 seconds left. Jarrid Frye made it 79:77, so Mornar took a time-out. Jelenic once again kepth is team alive, scoring for 79:79 with 30 seconds left. Ivan Lilov traveled and gave Mornar a chance for a winning possession 18 seconds before the end. Mornar didn’t manage to score and the game went into OT.

 

Jarrid Frye scored the first basket in the extra time, giving Feni a 81:79 lead with 3.20 to go, and after a strong effort by Knezevic on defense, Frye scored another 2 points in the next offense - 83:79, 2.54 before the end. Lazar Radosavljevic scored for 83:81, but Frye made 2 FT attempts (85:81) and Ivan Lilov scored a three (88:81), and Feni led by 7, 1.37 before the end. Mornar couldn’t do more and the final score was settled at 92:85 after overtime.

 

Ivan Lilov led Feni with 25 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Jarrid Frye had 21 points, including the first six in the OT period, while Dusan Knezevic added 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Marko Simonovski added 12 points.

 

Ivan Jelenic scored 21 for Mornar, Akeem Scott added 17, and Michale Singletary also added 17 in his debut for Mornar. Lazar Radosavljevic finished with 14 points in the loss.

 

The second game of the series is scheduled for the 3rd of April in Topolica Hall in Bar.
