Second quarter comeback lifts Peja over Kumanovo
On the strength of second quarter comeback, KB Peja defeated the visiting KK Kumanovo 2009 85-68 at the Karagaci Hall in Peje. The only Kosovan team in the Second Stage of SIGAL-UNIQA Balkan League improved to 2-2, while the Macedonian side dropped to 3-1.
Kumanovo held the hosts scoreless in the first three minutes of the game, while using a 6-0 run to break open a 19-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. Down by 4 after the first 10 minutes, Peja couldn’t find an answer for the visitors to open the second quarter, but soon was able to build a 7-point lead. The players of head coach Aleksandar Todorov found their stride finishing the first half on a 25-6 run to lead 43-36 at half.
High-flying third frame for Peja did not let KK Kumanovo to recover and the hosts held on outscoring the opponent 42-32 in the second half.
KB Peja spread the ball around with three players scoring double-digits. Cameron Rundles led the charge with 25 points, followed by Alban Veseli tallying a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Jamie Billie added another 16 points.
Yonel Brown answered by 19 points in losing effort, Danilo Mijatovic scored 16, and Dimitar Karadjovski had 10 points.
The Kosovan team finished the game shooting from beyond the arc at 32%, while KK Kumanovo shot at 16%. Peja also won the battle on the boards outrebounding the visitors 33-32.
