Barsy holds on against Bashkimi for a historic first win
BC Barsy Atyrau managed to record its first ever win in the Balkan League. The Kazakhstan team hosted KB Bashkimi and took 81-75 victory after leading from the first quarter. The Greens performed much better than their opponent, took good advantage in the first half and managed to get that historic first win despite losing most of it in the second. Now Barsy stands at 1-4 in the standings and on Friday will play against KS Teuta for the final match during this trip. Bashkimi is with 1-5 record and next week will host Teuta.
The game was really close in the first six minutes and this is when Barsy made its first run. The Kazakh team went on a 15-2 run to go up by 13 points and after ten minutes the difference was 11. Bashkimi tried to respond in the second quarter when they cut the gap to just 6 but Barsy scored the next 9 points and again their lead reached double digits. Until the end of the first half they even increased it and at the break they led by 19.
Barsy was hanging on to its good lead for most of the time in the third quarter but Bashkimi stepped up the pace near the end of it. An 8-0 run cut the deficit to 9 points and as the hosts scored the final basket after 30 minutes they were up by 11. Early in the last quarter though the visitors again were playing better and closed the gap to just 3 points. That however was the closest Bashkimi got as Barsy managed to respond and held on to celebrate their first victory in the Balkan League.
Barsy scored 9 three-pointers compared to just 4 for Bashkimi which proved to be too much. The visitors also missed 11 free throws from 26 attempts which also was key for the team′s defeat.
Vladimir Ivanov and Aragad Abramian were the top scorers for the winners with 21 points as Abramian had also 10 rebounds for a double-double and 5 assists. Bojan Bakic also did well adding 16 points.
Jordan Capps had another monster game for Bashkimi finishing with 40 points and 6 rebounds. Steven Haney also did good with 16 and 8 while Michael Martin scored 10.
