Kumanovo rout Peja to advance to the semifinals
KK Kumanovo 2009 was given a tough examination against KB Peja but registered a very important win in the third week of SIGAL-UNIQA Balkan league Second Stage action to secure a spot in the semifinals. The Macedonian team defeated its opponent, 80-76, in Sports Hall Kumanovo and imprved to 4-1, while the Kosovan side dropped to 2-3.
The Yellows will have another chance to qualify to the next phase of the competition as they host KK Teodo on 1 March, while Kumanovo will play for its pride against KK Karpos Sokoli 2000 on 1 March, as well.
Kumanovo, who is now atop of Group D, gained an early 10-point lead, 22-12, after 10 minutes on the court. Leading comfortably throughout the first half, Kumanovo looked in control. Peja cut the margin to 37-39 early in the third period, but the hosts went on a 9-4 run to go ahead again by 58:45.
Peja′s Noah Dahlman took it upon himself to bring the visitors back into the contest. The American power forward drilled a jump shot to narrow the deficit to 70-74 with 1:06 minutes left. The Macedonian team though weathered the storm to secure the win.
Danilo Mijatovic paced the winners with a double-double by 31 points and 11 rebounds. Dimitar Karadjovski and Radoslav Pekovic followed by 10 points, each.
Alban Veseli answered with 28 points in a losing effort, Mirza Ahmatbasic added 13, Noah Dahlman scored 12, while Cameron Rundles netted 10 points.
