BC Barcy from Kazakhstan joins the Balkan League
The Balkan League will have for the first time in its history a participating team from Kazakhstan. The local BC Barsy Atyrau confirmed that it will join the competition and will make its debut in season 2018/2019. The decision was taken in accordance and with the confirmation of the basketball federation of Kazakhstan.
In the past month the BIBL Sports Director Mr. Shay Shtriks and the head coach of the team Aleksandar Vrzina had several conversations regarding BC Barsy′s participation in the competition. The main principal was that in the first season Barsy would play all of its games in the Balkan region, in Bulgaria and Kosovo meaning that they would come 4 times to play all of their 12 games. It was also discussed that in the future the project can develop and the BIBL games could also be played in Kazakhstan.
In the past we had teams from Israel in the competition so the management of the league has shown that it′s always looking how to develop, support and bring more interesting basketball games and expose the Balkan teams, players, coaches and fans to a different culture.
The four periods of time when BC Barsy will play its games from the regular season will be the following: from November 19th to November 23rd, from January 6th 2019 to January 12th 2019, from January 27th to February 2nd 2019 and from March 03rd to March 09th 2019. The program of the team will be ready next week and will be done with the cooperation and the accordance of the other six teams participating in the league.
BC Barsy was founded back in 2003 and won its first trophy a few years later. In 2009 the team won the Kazakshtan National Cup but the biggest successes came in 2011 and 2016 when Barsy became a champion of the country.
This will not be Barsy′s first international experience. The team has already played few seasons in the Baltic league and also in the Western league, a regional competition in Latvia.
BC Barsy comes from the city of Atyrau which is Kazakhstan′s main harbour city on the Caspian Sea and is considered to be located both in Asia and Europe as it is divided by the Ural river.
