Beroe holds on in a drama for a precious win in Prishtina
BC Beroe recorded a very important win in the first game in BIBL for 2017. The Stara Zagora team visited the champions KB Sigal Prishtina and won 94-86 after overtime. It was another dramatic match in the competition as it went to the final seconds. The visitors had a double digit advantage for a long time but at the end of the regular time the hosts had a real chance to win. It was only natural that the game went to overtime where Beroe did much better.
That win doesn′t guarantee Beroe at 100% the spot in the next stage but the team can go out with a lot of different combinations. Next week the team will host KK Teodo and with a win it will go through. However the task for Sigal Prishtina is now much harder as the team needs to win its three remaining matches in order to have a real chance. On Thursday the team will host KK Kozuv.
It was an even start to the game with Sigal Prishtina leading for most of the time. However it wasn′t by much as after ten minutes the difference was just three points. Shortly after the start of the second period Beroe capitalized on some mistakes by the home team and on some good offense to make a 13-0 run. That gave the visitors a 12-point advantage which they managed to keep until the break.
Sigal came out strong in the third quarter and after a 7-0 run cut the deficit. Beroe at first answered and increased the lead to 13 after which the team was holding on. However the hosts had already started playing better and finally tied the score. Still Beroe went up by 2 at the end of the period and kept leading early in the fourth one. The home side took over after that and with 10-0 run managed to take a 6-point advantage. The visitors closed the gap to 3 but then Hajrizi hit his fifth triple to stop Beroe′s momentum. Still with 90 seconds to go the visitors re-took the lead after Jones made two free throws to put his team up by 2. In the nexxt offense Hinds answered with a triple and after him Tenchev missed one of his own. The hosts though made a mistake and with 29.5 seconds to go Radnev was fouled. He made only the second free throw and tied the score. Sigal didn′t organize a good offense and Rugova missed a triple and after Zhelev did the same from the center court the game went to overtime.
In the extra period everything was decided in the first three minutes. In that time Beroe scored 8 unanswered points which was enough for the win.
Tihomir Zhelev and Brandis Raley Ross were the top scorers for the winners with 19 points. Tencho Tenchev also did well and scored 15.
Drilon Hajrizi had a very good game for the hosts finishing with 26 points and 7 rebounds. Jabarie Hinds did well with 24 points as Nenad Delic added 13 and 6 rebounds.
