Academic Bultex 99 spoiled Barsy′s debut

BC Academic Bultex 99 recorded its second win in the Balkan League. The Plovdiv team did very well against BC Barsy Atyrau away in Sofia and took a 102-61 victory. It was the Kazakhstan team′s debut in the competition and they did fairly well despite the final outcome. The players arrived in Sofia on Monday evening and certainly were fatigued which cost them. Tomorrow evening they′ll meet BC Beroe at 19.00 hrs in St George Sports complex in Sofia.

 

Barsy started well and scored the first 4 points of the game. Academic however responded well and scored the next 14 points to never look back. They kept their double-digit lead for the first quarter but in the second the Kazakh team closed the gap. They also missed some opportunities to get closer and Academic capitalized to pull away. At the break the difference was 21 points and when the third quarter started with an 8-1 run for the Plovdiv side cruised on after that.

 

The difference between the two teams was in the turnover which led to a lot fast break points for the Bulgarian team. Barsy made a total of 22 turnovers compared to just 8 by their opponent which proved too much. 

 

Daishon Knight was the top performer for the winners with 20 points and 8 assists. Nikolay Nikolov did very well with 15 points as Peter Olisemeka had a double-double of 11 and 13 rebounds.

 

Barsy was led by Bojan Bakic who finished with 19 points and 5 assists. Pavel Ilyin was the only other player in double figures for the team and scored 10 points.
