Dramatic overtime win for Fersped Rabotnicki in last regular season game
Fersped Rabotnicki finished second
Macedonian team Fersped Rabotnicki won in dramatic fashion the last regular season game in Eurohold Balkan League. They beat Mega Hypo Leasing by the score 90-89 and finished second in the group while serbians ended up fourth. Despite the loss, young team from Belgrade played very well and still qualified for the quarterfinals. They will play against another Serbian representative in the league – Swisslion Takovo. Ferpsed Rabotnicki set up a matchup against Bulgarian Euroins Cherno More. Playoffs start next week and will be on home and away basis.
Both teams started with very good defense but then exchanged few baskets in row. Strahinja Dragicevic scored two three pointers plus a layup for 8 points in the beginning for Mega Hypo Leasing. The visitors were up by a point in the middle of the first quarter (11-12) but Macedonians went on 12-0 run thanks to the hot shooting behind the 3-point line. Trajkovski and Toni Simic scored two consecutive shots from long distance and Ognen Stojanovski made a old fashon three point play to put the home team up by 11 points. However from that point until the end of the first quarter Mega Hypo Leasing got to the free throw line few times to cut it to only 7 points 23-16.
Second quarter started with a 3-pointer for guard Stojanovski to bring back the double digit lead for Fersped Rabotnicki – 26-16. Three pointer by Dusan Katnic and layup by Mladen Pantic cut it to only four – 32-28. Newly signed center from Turkey Bora Pacun scored for Fersped Rabotnicki but Danilo Mitrovic with another successful shot behind the arc made the score 34-31 with less than 3 minutes to play in the first half. Serbians kept the distance until the last minute of second quarter when Trajkovski and Stojanovski both scored for 44-37 first half lead for the home side.
Young and very ambitious team of Mega Hypo Leasing tried all ways to stay in the game. They were down by 6 (50-44) but two long shots by Stojanovski once again put Rabotnicki up by 12 – 56-44. At the end of the third quarter the score was 64-55.
Last 10 minutes started with two baskets in row by the players of Mega Hypo Leasing – three pointer by Katnic and layup by Pantic to bring them back to only four points - 64-60. Tasovski scored a free throw and Pacun managed another important basket for 67-60. However visitors returned the favor and by very good Katnic cut it to only 2 (69-67) with little more than 6 minutes to go in the game. It was Ugrinovski and Tasovski after severall misses from behind the three point line to finally score and put the score back to 7 points – 74-67.
5 consecutive points by Stojacic brought the visitors back to only two – 74-72 with 2.05 to go in the game. Toni Grncarov scored and was fouled on play but missed free thorw. But then Mega Hypo Leasing stroke with three pointer by Dragicevic and layup by Nikolic that put them up for third time in the game – 76-77. Stojanovski scored another three pointer, his second with 50 seconds to go for 79-77. Katnic and Stojanovski exchanged turnovers before Serbian was fouled in the next offense to score from the free throws and tied the score at 79 apiece. Simic was fouled in the next possession and with 7 seconds to go didn’t miss both free throws. It was a young guard Aleksandar Mitrovic with 2.5 seconds to go in regulation to get fouled. He also scored twice, tied it at 81 before Stojanovski tried desperate shot from midcourt to beat the buzzer. He missed and the game went into overtime.
The extra five minute session were even more interesting than regular time. It took half of it for both teams to score only 2 points - 83-81 Fersped Rabotnicki were up but Dusan Cvetkovic scored two three pointers in row to put the visitors up 83-87. Simic and Tasovski went to the free throw line few times to tied it at 87 apiece. At the very end Tasovski brought his team one point lead and the last shot by Katnic rimmed out at the buzzer and Fersped Rabotnicki survived.
