Levski - Feni Industries (preview)
First two quarterfinals are set for Wednesday in Bulgaria. Both will start at 18.00 o’clock local time but in different cities. Levski will face macedonian champs Feni Industries in Sofia while Euroins Cherno More will play at home against Fersped Rabotnicki. Day later is the third game of the week between serbian Radnicki 034 Group and Rilski Sportist in Kragujevac with tip off set for 19.00 o’clock. Last quarterfinal match will start next week with serbians Mega Hypo Leasing and Swisslion Takovo facing each other.
Levski is coming to the game Wednesday night after very important away win against Spartak in Pleven while Feni Industries had a week off in Macedonian Superleague.
Feni Industries lost their last three games in Eurohold Balkan League and will try to change that streak in Sofia. Despite those three losses they still finished second at the table in Group A. That is why week later Feni Industries will play at home in Kavadarci in rematch of this quarterfinal matchup.
Donald Cole is the leader of Feni Industries as he average 20.1 points per contest in all 8 played games so far. He managed to reach double digits in scoring in all but one game versus Lions at home. 28 years old American is also leading rebounder of the team with 6.1 boards every game.
Other player to watch from macedonian champions is serbian guard Milan Prekovic. He is bringing lot of experience on the court and know how to shot the ball very well from long distance. Prekovic has 17 three pointers in 8 games (2.1 average in each one) and with 13.6 points is the second offensive threat by Feni Industries in Eurohold Balkan League season 2008/09.
Gjorgi Cekovski and Darko Sokolov left the team at the end of last year but they have few very attractive guard duo of players in Taliek Brown (9.3 points per game) and Goran Samardziev (10.8 points per game).
Levski roster was strengthen up with two very quality players about three weeks ago. Guard with NBA experience Charles Jones and lithuanian big guy Arnas Kazlauskas brought more depth to their bench and more players in rotation of coach Konstantin Papazov. Two home losses (against Fersped Rabotnicki and Mega Hypo Leasing) cost them higher place at the end of regular season in Group B. However that it doesn’t matter now as it comes to elimination and there is no room for any mistakes.
Marcus Hall with his 22.0 points per game will be the player Feni Industries would love to limit. American youngster also had 4.9 rebounds and 4.0 assists in first 8 games of the season in Eurohold Balkan League.
The center of Bulgarian National team Stefan Georgiev registered three double double performances in the league and had 13.8 points and 7.9 rebounds in average of 30.0 minutes every game.
Veteran power forward Dwayne Morton with 11.6 points and 7.6 boards will be the one to go against Cole in those two very interesting quarterfinal games.
Coach Papazov also use other three players, included in Bulgarian National team roster for last qualifications for Eurobasket 2009 in Poland – Stanislav Slaveykov (10.9 points per game), Asen Velikov (8.6 points and 2.4 assists) and Zlatin Georgiev (3.6 points per contest).
First game is on schedule in Universiada Hall in Sofia Wednesday night while the second one will be in beautiful Jasmin gym in Kavadarci week later. Winner of this matchup will play against the winner between Radnicki 034 Group and Rilski Sportist in the semifinal of Final Four.
