Fersped Rabotnicki first reached the Final Four
Macedonian Fersped Rabotnicki is the first team to find a place into the Final Four of Eurohold Balkan league. They scored the last 13 points in decisive run at the end of second leg in Skopje and after 81-61 win eliminate Bulgarian side Euroins Cherno More. Team from Varna held 16 points first leg and was very close to get it done. However they just stopped to play in the final minutes of the tonight game and couldn’t get into the next stage.
Fersped Rabotnicki didn’t have in the starting lineup two of their best players - injured Aleksandar Dimitrovski, Toni Grncarov and center Toni Simic, who had a high temperature before the start of the game. Nikola Karakolev started in place of Dimitrovski but felt in foul trouble with 3 personals and left the court after only 2 minutes of play.
Led by Ognen Stojanovski and Bojan Trajkovski in the early minutes home team open 14-5 early lead in the middle of first quarter. Bulgarians cut it to 14-7 thanks to two free throws by young guard Vasil Kyosev but three pointer by Vladimir Filipovic made it 17-7 – for the first time with 3.58 to go in the first quarter. Later 12-3 run by the players of Euroins Cherno More made it 20-19 minute at the end of the opening 10 minutes.
Second quarter started with tap-in by Danilo Mitrovic but Bryce Sheldon with his first 3-pointer tied it at 22 apiece in 12-th minute of the game. Both teams exchanged two baskets for 24-24 but Cherno More didn’t score in the next 5 minutes allowing Rabotnicki to go on 10-0 run for 34-24 with 2.59 before the half time break. The coach of visitors Predrag Badnjarevic took a time out but very good defense by Macedonians didn’t allow even a shot in the next two possesions for Bulgarians. Then Nenad Zivcevic 3-pointer in the last minute of first half gave Fersped Rabotnicki 13-point lead after 20 minutes – 37-24. Euroins Cherno More managed only 5 second quarter points but still at the half time had 3 points summary advantage as they won the first leg by 16 points margin.
In the beginning of third quarter home team even were up by 15 points but Bulgarians reacted with 9-2 run for 41-35 before Marin Dokuzovski to take time out in 24-th minute of the game. However at the end of third quarter Fersped Rabotnicki was up by 9 point – 53-44 and still have chances to erase Euroins Cherno More lead for the first game in Varna. Bulgarians won the third quarter 20-16.
Sheldon assisted to Dusan Koutsopoulos for layup in the first minute of last quarter and in the next possession American himself scored for 53-48. Danilo Mitrovic answered with a 3-pointer but another two consecutive baskets by Koutsopoulos and Bojovic made it only 56-52 with 7.32 to go in the game. Fersped Rabotnicki went on a mini run and with 4 minutes before the final whistle Stojanovski scored a 3-pointer for 66-56. But in next offense he got injured and left the game. Bojovic scored his first 3-pointer with 2.43 before the end to make the score – 68-61. That was the last basket by the visitors in this game. The players of coach Dokuzovski pushed it and scored the last 13 points in the game for a 20 point win at the end – 81-61. Good enough for their team to reach the Final Four at the end of the month. Tasovski with 6, Filipovic with 4 and Mitrovic with 3 points were unstoppable at the final 2 and half minutes to bring joy the the fans in Gradski park hall in Skopje.
Filipovic and Stojanovski each scored 14 points for the winners, Mitrovic added 13 points and 5 rebounds while Trajkovski ended with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Macedonian National team player Dime Tasovski missed all of his shots behind the 3-point arc (0-4) but managed all of his attempts from the free throw line – 8 of 8.
Best scorer in Eurohold Balkan league for this year – Corey McIntosh managed 16 points and dished 4 assists, Sheldon added 16 points of the bench and big guy Koutsopoulos had 15 points and 4 rebounds.
Fersped Rabotnicki will face in the semifinal either Feni Industries or the winner of Mega Hypo Leasing-Swsslion Takovo match that will start this coming Friday in Belgrade.
