Inside the Final Four teams - Fersped Rabotnicki
KK Rabotnicki Skopje was founded back in 1946. Since then the club tried to get among the best in the Yugoslavian League. The success came in 1953 when Rabotnicki played in the First East League of the country. In 1957 the club finished third in the junior category, which later in 1964 once again found place in best Yugoslavian League. From 1965 to the break up of Yugoslavia Rabotnicki always played in the First Division of the country.
After Yugoslavia fell apart Rabotnicki continued to play in the local league. Rabotnicki had the most number of players reflected on the development of basketball game in FYR of Macedonia and they brought great successes for Rabotnicki with their play.
Fersped Rabotnicki won 12 titles between 1993 and 2006. The club took the Macedonian Cup twice. Last season (2007/08) with head coach Marin Dokuzovski the team finished 4th after the regular season in the FYR of Macedonia with a 17-13 record and later lost at the semifinals of the playoffs against Feni Industries. Rabotnicki played had 11 times in European competitions since 1975, when they made their debut in the Saporta Cup. Back in 2004 they were part of FIBA Europe Cup South Conference and reached the Final, where they lost to Tuborg Izmir 78-80. The last time they played in Europe was in the 2004/05 season, when they couldn’t qualify from group A of FIBA Eurocup.
In the inaugural season of the Eurohold Balkan League Fersped Rabotnicki ended the regular season with three games at home in just one week. They needed three victories to win Group B but they lost against Rilski Sportist. Wins in the other two fixtures (versus Levski and Mega Hypo Leasing) were enough for second place and home court advantage in the quarterfinal second leg. It proved invaluable, as Rabotnicki made up for a 16-point deficit from the first leg (62-78), winning by 20 in their home game versus Bulgarians Euroins Cherno More to make it through to the Final Four.
Four Macedonian National team players are the best scorers of the team in the Eurohold Balkan League so far. They all average in double digits with Dime Tasovski leading them with 14.8 points per game. The other guard Ognen Stojanovski has 13.4, big guy Toni Simic - 12.9 - and Bojan Trajkovski - 10.4.
Fersped Rabotnicki also recently added a couple of new players – Danilo Mitrovic and Turk Bora Pacun. Mitrovic has played 4 games, averaging 5.2 points, while Pacun’s has netted 2.7 point per game in 3 contests.
Macedonians Fersped Rabotnicki scored the most 3-pointers in both groups of the Eurohold Balkan League. In those 8 games they succeeded 73 times from behind the arc out of 196 attempted shots - 37.2 %. They added another 16 triples in their 2 quarterfinal games versus Cherno More, although their percentage dropped a bit (30.8 % - 16/52). But generally, once they get going from long distance it’s very hard to stop them.
The players of coach Dokuzovski also lead the Balkan League in blocked shots per game – 3.2, with Toni Simic having 9 blocks to his name overall (1.55 per game).
