Inside the Final Four teams - Feni Industries
Feni Industries had a very successful last season domestically in the FYR of Macedonia. They first won the Cup and then became champions of the Macedonian League, beating Strumica 2005 in the final. Feni had finished first at the end of the regular season too, with 26 wins from 30 games.
The club was formed in 2005 under its current name - Feni Industries. The very next season they reached the quarterfinal of the Macedonian Cup. The main sponsor of the club is the biggest and only Ferro Nickel producer, Feni Industries. Within the activities of the club, they manage a free of charge youth basketball academy. In the 2005/06 season they played in the Second Division and ended up second in the table. Feni Industries took the 6th place in the First Division of the country in the 2006/07 season and in the same year they reached the quarterfinals of the Macedonian Cup. Then their biggest successes came earlier last year. Emil Rajkovic is the head coach of the team.
Feni Industries had a great start to their Eurohold Balkan League campaign, winning 4 of their opening 5 regular season games. Then they lost their closing three games in Group A, all of them on the road, and even made it a streak of 4 consecutive BIBL defeats, as Bulgarian team Levski managed to beat them in Sofia 91-75, in the first leg of their quarterfinal. But, despite those three losses at the end, they had still finished second in the Group A standings and that gave them the crucial home court advantage for second game. Feni Industries made good use of that and became the second Macedonian team to oust a Bulgarian opponent despite a 16-point first leg deficit – they won 81-62 at home in Kavadarci and qualified for the Final Four.
Donald Cole is the undisputed on-court leader of Feni Industries as he averages 21.3 points per contest in the 10 games he has played in the BIBL so far. He managed to reach double digits in scoring in all but one of the games (versus Lions at home). The 28-year old American forward-center is also the leading rebounder of the team with 5.3 boards per game.
Another player to watch from the Macedonian champions’ roster is Serbian guard-forward Milan Prekovic. He brings a lot of experience on the court and knows how to shoot the ball very well from long distance. Prekovic has 18 three-pointers in his 10 games (an average of 1.8) and with 12.1 points has been the second offensive threat by Feni Industries in the Eurohold Balkan League season 2008/09.
Power forward Gjorgi Cekovski and guard Darko Sokolov left the team at the end of last year but American Taliek Brown has been brought back in to replace Sokolov as the team’s starting point guard and he has averaged 10.2 points and 2.5 assists per game. He now forms a very attractive backcourt duo with Goran Samardziev, who has 9.7 points per contest. Center Zlatko Gocevski contributes an average of 10.1.
