The club was founded back in 1998, by a group of basketball enthusiasts in the factory Avala Ada. In the spring of 1999 they won in the regional league in Serbian capital Belgrade. That allowed them to get in the Second Serbian League. A season later they wanted to find a place one level above and successfully moved up in the First Serbian League. Two seasons in a row they finished third in that league.  After playoffs in Novi Becej in 2002/03 they qualified for First B League of Serbia and ended up third in the standings a year later.

Thanks to the great help of the well known Beobasket agency, which took the management of the team in 2004/2005 season, they reached the biggest success of this young club after finishing second in the competition of Serbian First B League. That was enough to advance in YUBA League, which is the highest level of club competition in Serbia. From December 19 2005 the club changed its name and was called Mega Basket. At the same time the club signed a very important sponsorship agreement with Company Ishrana Smederevo and during the 2005/2006 season the team was officially named Mega Ishrana, while over the last year the name of the club was Mega Aqua Monta. They finished second in the first stage of the Superleague with a winning record – 12-10. Another new name came with the next new sponsor at the beginning of the current season – Mega Hypo Leasing.

The team is well known for giving opportunities to young players, coming from one of the best basketball European schools – the Serbian – to show their talent. With a very young line-up this season too, in the Eurohold Balkan League the team has done well to not only qualify for the quarterfinals, but also upset there fellow Serbians and favourites Swisslion Takovo. Mega Hypo Leasing had come out of Group B with a bottom seed 4th place and a 4-4 record, while the Lions were top seeded from the other group. Despite that and the lack of experience, the young players of the Belgrade team won by 11 points at home and then lost by just 10 in Vrsac to go through to the Final Four.

The average age of Mega’s roster is just 20 years and 4 months, as only 4 out of the 19 players were born before 1989. It’s a 20-year old – shooting guard Stefan Stojacic – that has been the top scorer and the star of the team, netting 16.2 points (including 2.1 treys) per game in the BIBL.

Behind Stojacic (in fact – including him) it is a real balanced team performance by Mega Hypo Leasing – there are 4 more players averaging double digit (between 11.9 and 12.4) points per game in the BIBL so far.

The "double digit foursome" includes Uros Nikolic, Strahinja Dragicevic, Dusan Katnic and Aleksandar Mitrovic. Nikolic is a 21-year old center, who has led the team in rebounds per game (8.3) to add to his 12.4 points. 23-year old power forward Dragicevic didn`t start this season with Mega HL, but in November came back to the team he had already spent one season with and since then has contributed 12.3 points per BIBL game. 20-year old Katnic is currently the team`s starting point guard and brings 12.1 points and 4.2 assists per game. Shooting guard Mitrovic is an 18-year old prodigy, who has successfully utilized his 200-cm stature to move up to small forward this season and average 11.9 points per game.
