Rilski Sportist vs. Fersped Rabotnicki

Rilski Sportist vs. Ferpsed Rabotnicki is the Final of Eurohold Balkan League – season 2008/09. Both teams won their semifinal games last night and will face each other at 18.00 o’clock in Arena Samokov fighting for the gold medals of this year tournament.

Fersped Rabotnicki qualified much easier for the Final as they had a great shooting night from long distance in the win over another macedonian representative in this debut season of the league – Feni Industries. The score 90-62 in favor of the players of coach Marin Dokuzovski saying it all. The big win gave opportunity to the coach to put in play all available players (with exception of injured Bora Pacun) and rest some of the regular starters before today’s final. Fersped Rabotnicki scored 13 three pointer shots which was the main reason they blow out Feni Industries last night. Another thing to mention is their defense, allowing the opponent to score only 62 points – their season low in Eurohold Balkan League.

Rilski Sportist had good semifinal fight against young and ambitious team of Mega Hypo Leasing winning once again in the closing seconds of the game. With big desire to win, supported by the home crowd the players of coach Aleksandar Todorov managed another dramatic finish with serbians, their third in row this season. Bulgarians beat them twice by single point in the regular preliminary group games while last night for difference they did it by …two points – 83-81. The home team led throughout the whole game, in some moments by 12 points. However Serbian team showed their big class and character, despite they are young and unexperienced. American Travis Peterson managed the last shot in the last minute and both teams exchanged several offenses until the end with nobody scoring. The win kept their undefeated record versus serbian teams this season alive. Before that they also defeated Radnicki Kragujevac twice in the elimination quarterfinal round. Are they going to stay  undefeated versus macedonian teams as well?

First in Samokov on December 10 Rilski Sportist won 72-65 and then on February 17 won again in a direct meeting for the first place. In Skopije the Bulgarian team was ahead 92-87 at the buzzer. One thing is certain, in this matchup there will be a battle of two Macedonian coaches - Marin Dokuzovski and Aleksandar Todorov who are on the head of the two finalists.

The fact that Rilski Sportist qualified for the final is an incredible success but after the team has 9 wins from 11 games the boys deserved their place in the last game. Most of the game finished with low difference but the luck is always on the strongest side. From the other side Fersped Rabotnicki after qualifying with ease for the eliminations defeated Euroins Cherno More in two very interesting games at the 1/4 finals. At the 1/2 finals it was a lot easier against the compatriots from Kavadarci.

Both teams have strong sides, excellent players and good coaches. Who will win the final today wil not be known until around 20.00 o`clock at Arena Samokov. The game starts at 18.00. Either the trophy will stay in Samokov or will be heading to  Skopje we will know the answer after a few hours.
