Shay Shtriks: It`s not easy in the Balkans but we are growing fast

Sports Director of Eurohold Balkan League Shay Shtriks:

“First of all thank you all for coming and covering this Final Four of Eurohold Balkan League. It’s not easy to run the league with so many federations but I must say all meetings were excellent and positive. I believe the Final Four here in Samokov is great, the conditions are very good and is high level organization. Many people and experts said the first game yesterday was unbelievable and very interesting, with high quality basketball. I must also say the officiating in the games were excellent. No matter winning or losing team nobody is complaining from the officiating. We decided to publish our nominations because we trust them and they are reliable and this is what we will do in the future.

I hope the best team will win tonight but I would like to say the winner of this year competition is Eurohold Balkan League team. I have been in the lots of Final Fours before and to be honest it’s easy to organize this in Spain or Germany, not the same here on the Balkans. So our Eurohold team is the best team for this first year.

Regarding the next year competition, there will be 12 teams for sure and at least two new countries – Montenegro and Bosna and Hercegovina. There is 99 % guarantee we will have teams from Israel, Greece and Turkey. Our goal is to extend the level of the league and also give more opportunities to young teams to participate in Eurohold Balkan League. Around June 10 we will have all 12 teams from different countries and they will be proposed by their federations.

Maybe we will find the right way the champion of this country to play in other league. As far as financial prizes we never talked about them for this tournament. I believe for all those participant teams that was a big chance to expose themselves and to give young and talented players opportunity to be part of the league. This is much better prize for them – to play tonight in front of the full 3000 gym and show their talent. Other than that the prize will be a very nice trophy.

For next year we will have the current participant countries with two teams, Montenegro with two as well, team from Bosna and Hercegovina and also one team from Israel, Greece and Turkey. It`s not easy here in the Balkans but we are growing fast.”
