Gaz Metan is going to replace CSU Cuadripol Brasov

It became clear earlier today that CSU Cuadripol Brasov isn`t going to participate in the second edition of the Eurohold Balkan League. Anyway, the number of Romanian teams will remain 2, because besides Steaua Turabo, the new team that will join the league is CS Gaz Metan Medias.

CS Gaz Metan Medias started the championship in Romania really good, getting two wins from two games. Currently they are on the second position in the table. They also got some impressive names on their roster, as without any doubt the most interesting is Derrick Phelps. The 193-cm tall guard is a graduate of the most popular basketball program in the NCAA - The University Of North Carolina. He won the National Title during season 1992-93 and holds the all-time record for most steals in a game (9) and for most career steals (247). He has played profesionally with the Sacramento Kings (NBA), ALBA Berlin (Germany) and a few more, as his last team is Spartak Primorie (Russia).

The team has a total of 4 Americans - Phelps, Deven Mitchell, Jarrett Howell and Kitwana Rhymer. The other foreigner is Ivan Zigeranovic (Serbia). The club also has at disposal one of the most promising talents in Romania - Titus Nicoara.   Head coach of the team is Croatian Bruno Soce.

The team will play their first BIBL game on the 21st of October at home against KK Lovcen.
