Comfortable lead for Rilski Sportist against Levski

Rilski sportist managed to take a solid lead in the first quarterfinal playoff against Levski in the EUROHOLD Balkan League. In Bulgarian derby in this stage of the tournament Riletso totally dominated over his opponent and won 89-75. Levski played without their top scorer Aaron Harper, who couldn`t recover of his injury and his teammates failed to compensate his absence.
Levski started better in the first three minutes and managed to pull to 7-2. Three-pointer by Simeon Naydenov and a lay-up of Bogdan Boev in two consecutive attacks equaled the result, but Zlatin Georgiev scored his sixth point for 7-8. Travis Peterson scored 5 consecutive points and pulled Rilski to 14-10. Gjorgji Cekovski reduced to only one point after a three, but another series of Peterson continued and he scored two more baskets for 18-15. After a few consecutive field goals by Alexander Gruev increased the gap to 7 points - 24-17, and Titi Papazov took a time-out. Stefan Georgiev and Jane Petrovski set the score of 27-22 after 10 minutes on the field. At the beginning of the second half the hosts pulled to 32-23 after good performances by Gruev and Peterson. The Blues made a good series of 8-2, which took off their trail to only 3 points. Travis Peterson, Jane Petrovski and Sasho Gruev made a lot of good combinations and Riletso outcome increased to
51-42. Gruev was able to add two more points for the hosts after two successful free-throws, but in the last attack of the first half Pavel Ivanov was fouled behind the three-point line and was awarded to shoot three times, but missed one and the first 20 minutes ended to 53-44.
After the break Rilski managed to increase the lead after 3 successful consecutive attacks leading by their captain Alexander Gruev to 16 points - 64-48. Last season champions used the fact that Levski played very absentminded and were without their best player and tried to took as bigger win as they could. Simo Naidenov scored three-pointer after a very difficult shooting and the outcome was 72-61. In the final minute of the third quarter and both teams failed to score and the outcome did not change. In the first seconds of the last period Travis Peterson made another incredible three-pointer, followed by a 7-0 record by Simeon
Naidenov, gave to the hosts the biggest lead in the game - 20 points 6 minutes before the end. Two consecutive plays by Donald Cole and Stefan Georgiev reduced the difference to 14 points, 84-70. Then, again Naidenov, who scored a new three-pointer, and after that Gruev added 2 points and the hosts lead again jumped to 89-70, two minutes before the final whistle. Jane Petrovski made his second unsportsmanlike foul and was send out from the game. "Blues" scored only one
point while Vaklinov failed to score from the three and Assen Velikov was fouled. He missed both fouls and the result remained 89-73, 34 seconds remaining. Lubomir Kirov missed behind the three-point line for the hosts, but Frasor was fouled, and after scoring twice from the line reduced the difference to 14 points. In the last 6 seconds Naydenov failed to score from a difficult position.
Awesome game for the winners played Travis Peterson. American center ended with 30 points and 9 rebounds for index of 37. Simeon Naydenov finished with double-double - 19 points and 11 rebounds, while captain Aleksandar Gruev lead his teammates well and nailed with 17 points and 8 assists. For the guest Bobby Frasor and Zlatin Georgiev ended with 16 points each, while Donald Cole added 12 in the losing effort. Gjorgj Cekovski made a good performance with 13 points
and 7 boards.
