Shay Shtriks: The new BIBL system proved to be the right one

After the end of the regular season 2010 -2011, the Sports Director of EUROHOLD
Balkan League shared his opinion about the new system that started this season,
the quality of the games, organization, officiating, media coverage etc.
“It seems to be that we have just started the season and we are already in the end. This only shows season 2010 -2011 was great, full of interesting games, some unpredictable results and the most important, the system proved to be successive. Until the last game on 02.03.2011 no one knew which team from group B will qualify
automatically to the F4 and in fact the position of the 3 teams was decided tonight after the last game in Pravets - Balkan – Feni Industries. In Group A last night happened the same - only after the games in Mostar and Ulcinj the names of the 3 teams were decided. ALL the teams had to play until the last moment to secure their places in the F4 and QF. I am very happy with that fact as we have shown we can change things and not to be “inside the box”.
Most of the games were played at good conditions, good and interesting basketball. Some of them even finished in the last seconds. However, I am very disappointed by the results of some of the participants about which we were sure we would see better performance. Yes, they are young teams but nevertheless we expected they would be better. We may give them second chance next season as the organization and the facility there were more than ok, but we will have to share our opinion with the local federations.
Regarding our internal organization, I have to mention that without the support of ALL the BIBL personnel, nothing would move. Everybody worked almost 24 hours per day before the games to fix the hotels, hours of games, media coverage and lots of other small details. If they had not done it, we would not have had games. Some of the clubs participate for the first season, they did not have experience in international games and we needed to support them. The clubs that are already 2-3 seasons work like professionals and I am very happy to see that we have manage to teach them work according to the European standards. All these is quite beneficial for themselves, for the League and for the local federations as well.
A very delicate issue, like in each competition is the “Referees, Nominations and Officiating”. I am very proud to say even one game was not decided by bad officiating or bad call of any of our referees. Our vision to give possibility to young referees, non-international ones supported by experienced FIBA referees proved itself by 100%. All of them did very good and professional job and those who were not at the same level which we had asked, had the possibility to improve during the season and some of them will have it in the next season.
As for the Media converge: This season we started with new project in cooperation with Sport Media for transmission of all EUROHOLD Balkan League games LIVE in the internet. We managed to broadcast 80% of the games, most of them in very good quality and in most of the Balkan countries the fans could watch the games. Of course, we need to continue improving more and more. I hope we will be able to put already in the QF round sports graphics with better quality of the broadcast.
Regarding TV broadcast we had a very good cooperation with Bulgarian National TV and most of the games in Bulgaria were broadcast with good quality and we do hope that the cooperation will continue in the future also. Some of the games in Romania were live in the Romanian NTV and we do hope to have more TV channels to cooperate with us.
We are facing now the most interesting part of the season - the QF and the F4. The system of the QF is “best of 3” and I believe we are going to have 6 strong games.
The location of the F4 is still unknown and will be announced after the last game of the QF.
