Daniel Dimevski : EUROHOLD Balkan League is developing the basketball in the Balkans

The President of the Macedonian Basketball Federation - Mr Daniel Dimevski gave an interview for our website. We found Mr Dimevski in a great mood, caused probably by Feni′s participation in the final of this edition of EUROHOLD Balkan League.

Q : Mr. Dimevski, tomorrow is the last game from the third edition of EUROHOLD Balkan League – the final of season 2010/2011 between KK Feni Industries and BC Rilski Sportist. What is your opinion about the organization of the Final 4 this year in Kavadarci ? Do you think that Macedonian basketball will have some benefits from the event ?

 I’m very satisfied with the organization of the Final 4. Yesterday the gym was full and we watched two very interesting and dinamic games with good basketball. In my opinion best will be shown tomorrow at the final – I expect that it is going to be a real spectacle. I hope that the atmosphere will be great and I’m optimistic about KK
Feni, because they have a solid team this year and are ready to achieve the first international title in the history of Macedonian basketball.  

Q : After 3 seasons, EUROHOLD Balkan League affirmed as one of the main competitions in Europe and more teams are interested in participating in it. How would you rate the level of the basketball in the League and is BIBL developing in the right way ?

 I’m really impressed with the development of EUROHOLD Balkan League. The quality and the load of the games yesterday is the best example that the Balkan League has been doing a great job in these three seasons. Despite the hard financial situation the last year, some of the clubs even managed to increase their quality and show a great  rising. With the two new members in the face of Bosnia and Croatia i think that the future is bright for the League.  

Q : Feni is a constant in EUROHOLD Balkan League, but in the previous two Final 4
tournaments something was missing in their squad. Do you think that this is their season ?

 Feni has a great team, in the previous season they also had strong squads but then Feni didn’t have an international experience and probably this reflected on their play in the last two Final 4. I hope that this year the club from Kavadarci has got mature and has the necessary capacity to win the title.

Q : Most of the teams in the League have only local players in their rosters with an average age of 21-22 years.  Do you agree that BIBL is the perfect place for them to express ?

In my opinion EUROHOLD Balkan League met all expectations and fulfill all their main goals. Thanks to my good friend Mr Shay Shtriks, the League will help the young and talented players to gain more international experience and to promote them to the biggest teams. I think that in the Balkans there are a lot of basketball prospects – not only players, but also referees, managers, coaches etc. and the Balkan League is helping them a lot. In Macedonian League there are a lot of young players, i admire this rule and while i’m president of the federation i will strictly follow it.

Q : What is the possibility to have two teams again from Macedonia next season in the Balkan League?

There is a big chance to have two teams in the next edition of the Balkan League, as this season we have four very strong teams in Macedonian Superleague. Also the gyms are full every round and some games impress with a high-level basketball. I think that the best teams in Macedonia this year – the champion and the runner-up need to be part of the Balkan League for the season 2011/2012.
