Assen Christov: There were good games and strong teams in the EUROHOLD BIBL

The Executive Director of the EUROHOLD Balkan League - Mr. Assen Christov took out of his time and spoke to Lubomir Neshev from BGBasket.com about the 2010/2011 season which finished last week and also about other things regarding the BIBL.   Mr. Hristov, the third edition of the EUROHOLD Balkan League is already over. Are you satisfied?
I can honestly say that I am. THere were good games and strong teams. The format with 10 teams and best of three quarterfinal series proved to be successful, and right. For the upcoming season it will stay, but we′re thinking about the possibility of having 10 or 12 teams in the BIBL.   Are there going to be new teams?   There was some interest shown by Croatian side Split. They are a good team, who are doing good in the Croatian League, they have traditions and a possible participation in the EUROHOLD Balkan League will move the level of the competition up. KK Brod-Svjetlost also want to continue their participation. Edirne from Turkey also has interest, but the main issue there is the visa process for the local players. There is enough time, we will see what will happen.   What is the difference between the BIBL and the other tournaments?   Our league does not have a prize fund, but we cover the team′s expenses, as well with the officials′ fees. Also all of the games were broadcasted live on Sportmedia.TV. According to the statistics there was much interest and many fans saw the games.   How did the Final 4 in Kavadarci go and what did the fans there see, as well those in front of the TV screens?   They saw a full hall and contested games. The semifinals had much emotion and drama. The final game was interesting as well, regardless of the fact that at one point the difference was too big. However Rilski Sportist didn′t give up and fought until the end. The organization was at a high level as well.
You are already three years the main sponsor of the Balkan League. What is EUROHOLD getting in return from the all of this?   On firstp place - the satisfaction of developing a social activity. I′m absolutely sure that the League is really positive and useful to the teams that are participating, and also for the basketball in the Balkans in general. Young players are given a chance to showcase their talents and as well to get international experience. It′s a great honor for EUROHOLD to be part of all this, which brings more prestige to the holding. And ofcourse the Balkan League is advertising the company all over the Balkans which is very important too.
