Road to the Final Four: BC Levski Sofia

Road to the Final Four: BC Levski Sofia Levski with the title in 2010
17-04-2012 | 09:35 | Alexander Sotirov
This year once again we′ll continue the custom of giving a brief presentation with every team that has reached the Final Four. This year it was Levski Sofia who first secured their spot in the 2012 EUROHOLD Balkan League Final Four in Gan Ner, as "The Blues" finished on the top spot in Group B.   Levski can definitely be called "veterans" in the EUROHOLD Balkan League, as they have participated in all editions of the tournament since the start in 2008. In three of those four appearances they have reached the Final Four (Sofia 2010, Kavadarci 2011 and Gan Ner 2012) as in their first F4 appearance in 2010 they lifted the championship trophy of the BIBL.   This season Levski were drawn in Group B of the competition with the teams of KK Feni Industries (defending BIBL champion), BC Hapoel Tel Aviv, KK Napredak Rubin, HKK Zrinjski Mostar and KK Ulcinj.   In the group phase Levski made the best performance in the history of the EUROHOLD Balkan League, as they became the first team ever to finish without a single loss in the first stage - 10 straight wins.   However it wasn′t easy for Konstantin Papazov′s side as the played a couple really interesting and dramatic games which weren′t decided until the very last minutes - KK Feni at home (67:66), KK Napredak at home (74:72), KK Ulcinj on the road (73:75) and also HKK Zrinjski at home (63:57).   After the return of Marcus Hall to Levski′s line-up this season, the American combo guard formed a great duo with Aaron Harper, who remained with the team for the third straight year. Those two are the team′s top scorers, combining for a total of 31.5 points per game - Harper has 17.5 along with 5.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists, while Hall adds 14.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists. Jarrett Howell and Hrisimir Dimitrov add respectively 11.8 and 10.9 points per game, while Dimitar Angelov has 9.9 points average. Vassil Evtimov is a real threat for every team on the low block - 8.0 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists in just 24.9 minutes per game. Pavel Ivanov has been the team′s key sixth man, as he started all eight games he played in on the bench, but had some good performances (5.8 points and shooting 46.7% from three-point range).   Last season Levski played in the Final Four, but they lost to Rilski Sportist in the semifinals - 70:74. This year the defending champion KK Feni Industries is standing on Levski′s way to the final, as this game has a good history of being one of the most interesting battles in the BIBL for the last four seasons.   The semifinal game between BC Levski and KK Feni Industries is scheduled for 18.00 local time on April 21st in Gan Ner.
