Team on Focus: BC Levski

The current EUROHOLD BIBL beaten finalist - BC Levski Sofia, is once again entering the competition with high ambitions. The team is with the league since the beginning and won it back in 2010. Last season Levski won all but one game and it was the most important one. It was on the final of the competition where the team played very good but lost at the end ot BC Galil Gilboa in overtime.

This season Levski has a new strategy and it is to rely solely on local players. The team signed Serbian point guard Marko Marinovic who will be the only abroad player. Also back in the team is center Nikolay Varbanov while new signings are Dimitar Dimitrov and Dimitar Philipov. There are no changes in the coaching staff as Konstantin Papazov is still the head coach and Toni Dechev and Nikolay Gospodinov are his assistants.

Marko Marinovic will be the main point guard of Levski this season and so far in the friendly games he showed his skills. His experience will be very important for the team who will have 21-year Ventsi Petkov as his substitute. He will be given a chance this season and will be able to learn from a very good player. New signing Dimitar Philipov is another player who will get minutes in this position but probably his time will be limited.

Chavdar Kostov is going to be the main offensive weapon from the wing players. He will be staying with the team he grew up with. Zlatin Georgiev and Pavel Ivanov are also back with The Blues and will play another season in the League. The experienced Hrisimir Dimitrov will be an important asset as the four wing players will divide the minutes.

In the frontcourt Levski kept two of the main players and added two new faces. Nikolay Varbanov and Dimitar Dimitrov joined the team in the summer and will be playing alongside Dimitar Anguelov and Stefan Georgiev. The two Dimitar′s will share the position 4 while the other two players will play at center. Denis Agre and Georgi Kunov are also here but most likely they will not play a lot.

Levski is looking once again as one of the best teams in EUROHOLD Balkan League and The Blues from Sofia will be looking to win the title for a second time but surely will face very tough competition. The team has a deep roster with two players for every position which is helpful for a long season. It just remains to be seen whether the new strategy with local players will provide the wanted results.
 
Levski is in group A with the teams of BC Galil Gilboa, KK Djuro Djakovic, KK Kumanovo 2009 and KK Mornar.
