BC Kavala defeated Rilski Sportist at home 81-79 in its first ever game in EUROHOLD Balkan League. Both teams played a good match and it was decided in the final seconds. Here is what some of the main participants in the game had to say at the end of it:
Chris Chougaz, BC Kavala head coach: "It was very good game. In the end we had some problems against Rilski as they scored some three-pointers due to our bad defense. I believe that they are very good team and I said to my players that I think this is the best team from the opponnents in our group. I believe it′s good to start with a win in this league. For us it was historical game because it was the first outside the local league."
Jeremy Fears, BC Kavala player: "Rilski is a very good team. We knew that we had to come out after our previous game and play very tough and physical from the beginning. I think we showed a good picture tonight and all we want to do is fight from the beginning. We want to be as successful as we can in this league. We are trying to win every game and go to the Final Four and win it. We want to win every possible game."
Rosen Barchovski, head coach of Rilski Sportist: "Congratulations to Kavala and I wish the team good luck in EUROHOLD Balkan League and in local championship. It was very good and open game. It was very interesting which is good for the prestige of the league and for the fans. I′m sorry that we lost the game because in the last offense we were in a position to win. We had an open 3-point shot for one of our best shooters but this is basketball. We have to improve a lot our game, especially in defense."
Terry Smith, player of Rilski Sportist: I′m really dissappointed. I don′t care how many points I scored, it′s more important to win games. Winning the games is our goal. Branko Mirkovic is our leader and having him on the floor changes the whole game. When he comes back we will be a much better team. I think we have a good chance to be a good team. We have a lot of talent, we are young and we have veteran experience with Mirkovic. I think, depending on how we gel together, we would be a good team. Kavala played really hard. The team was very physical and it was a great experience for me."
