BC Levski Sofia started with very difficult win at home

BC Levski Sofia started the new season in EUROHOLD BIBL with a very difficult win. The current finalist in the competiton defeated KK Djuro Djakovic at home 77-73. "The Blues" got the victory late in the game as the visitors had the lead for most of the time. They played better than their hosts but just couldn′t finish them off and lost for second time in a row. Next game for BC Levski Sofia is away at KK Mornar on November 7th while KK Djuro Djakovic will host KK Mornar week earlier on October 30th.

The game started even and both teams exchanged baskets. The first to take some kind of advantage were the visitors who went up 13-9. Levski tied the score but KK Djuro Djakovic made a 7-0 run and pulled away. Then the hosts finished better the first quarter and at the end of it the team from Slavonski Brod had 24-21 lead.

The visitors were in front at the start of the second quarter and kept their slim advantage. In the middle of it Levski managed to make an 8-0 run and took a 3-point lead with 02.45 minutes to play in the first half. However until the end of it the team didn′t score again while KK Djuro Djakovic finished with 8 straight points and held a 42-37 advantage after 20 mintues of play.

The team from Slavonski Brod started good the second half and even increased the lead to 8 points. From then on the visitors managed to stay in front despite the efforts of Levski to tie the score. The hosts did cut the deficit to 2 points with three minutes to go in the third quarter but KK Djuro Djakovic once again pulled away by 6 points. Levski managed to scored the last 4 in the third quarter and it finished 56-54 for the visitors.

Levski tied the score in the last quarter but Brice Massamba responded with a three-point play and KK Djuro Djakovic retook the lead. The hosts answered with two straight baskets and went in front but it didn′t last long as Marko Batina drained a three-pointer and Marino Sarlija scored for 60-64 with 06.53 minutes to go. Then Chavdar Kostov missed for the hosts and Batina responded with another three to put the visitors up by 7 points. In the next minutes Levski tried to come back and with 03.56 minutes to play cut the deficit to just a single point. Then Sarlija responded with two free throws but Zlatin Georgiev managed to tie the score with 3 minutes to go. Pavel Ivanov put the hosts in front and after Dimitar Anguelov three-points suddenly Levski was ahead by 5 points with 01.53 to play. The visitors did give back 2 points and then both teams missed. Dimitar Anguelov was fouled with 8.2 seconds to go and closed the game with one free throw.

Marko Marinovic was the top scorer for the winners with 14 points while Nikolay Varbanov added 12. For the visitors Marko Batina finished with 18 points as Marino Sarlija added 17 and 8 rebounds.
