Levski with two out of two in group A

BC Levski won its second straight game in group A of EUROHOLD Balkan League. The Blues from Sofia did that by beating KK Mornar away in Bar by 89-84. After this match Levski remains unbeaten while the team from Bar is last in the group with 4 defeates from 4 games. Next match for Levski is away at KK Kumanovo 2009 on November 14th while on 20th KK Mornar will host KK Kumanovo 2009.

The teams exchanged baskets in the first minutes and the first team to take some kind of advantage was Mornar. After a triple by Nikola Ivanovic the hosts went up by 6 points but Levski brought back the diffenrence to just 2. Mornar once again pulled away and even took an 8-point lead in the last minute of the quarter which finished 27-21.

The hosts had the better start of the second quarter and even made their lead 10 points. Levski responded with a 9-0 run after that and the visitors reduced the deficit to just a single point in the middle of the quarter. From then on both teams contunied to be very even and the team from Sofia managed to take a 3-point lead. The teams exchanged baskets and after the end of the first half the score was tied at 44.

Levski started very well in the second half and in less then two minutes made a 10-0 run that put the team ahead. Milos Djurisic stopped the run with a three-pointer but the visitors continued to play better and in the midde of the third quarter were up by 13 points, 62-49. In the following minutes the both teams made runs that didn′t change the difference at the end of quarter. First Mornar scored 7 straight points and than Levski did the same thing and after 30 minutes the visitors were up 71-58.

In the middle of the last quarter the hosts cut their deficit and closed the gap to just 3 points after a 7-0 run. Stefan Georgiev and Chavdar Kostov scored a two and a three-pointer respectively and thanks to this Levski once again pulled away and went up by 8 points. In the final minutes the team managed to keep the advantage and won the match.

Nikolay Varbanov finished with 25 points and 8 rebounds in the win while Chavdar Kostov had 19 points.

For the hosts Milos Djurisic had 22 points as Miroslav Damjanovic added 18.
