Important home win for BC Kavala over KK Kozuv

BC Kavala (Kavala, GRE) won a very important game at home. In a what may prove to be a decisive clash for a top 3 spot in group B the team defeated KK Kozuv (Gevgelija, MKD) 87-77 and recorded its third win. Kavala has also 2 losses while Kozuv has 3-4 record and only one game left. What is important is the difference in points as Kavala will have the edge in a potential tie between the teams because Kozuv won the first game by 5 points. Next week the team from Gevgelija will host KK Teodo in its last match of the first phase while Kavala is visiting OKK Beograd.
Kavala took a 6-point lead in the first quarter but couldn′t score in the last three and a half minutes of it. The visitors made a 9-0 run to finish it and took a 23-20 lead. Kozuv even went up by 8 points in the second quarter but later a 9-0 run for the hosts put them back in front. Until the end of the first half both teams exchanged baskets and at the break the scored was tied at 45 points.
A 6-0 run after the middle of the third quarter broke the tie allowed Kavala to pull away. Later Kozuv did cut the deficit to just 2 points but still after 30 minutes the home side was up 66-60. In the last quarter Kavala had the lead but Kozuv never gave up and a few times was getting very close. With less then two minutes to go Miladin Pekovic scored a triple and cut the deficit to just 2 points. However it was the last basket for the visitors as Yannis Gagaloudis and William Coleman scored in the next offenses of Kavala with Dimitar Karadjovski missing between them. That made the difference 6 points and in the final seconds the hosts closed out the match.
Anthony Grundy was the top scorer for the winners with 17 points as William Coleman added 14 and 10 rebounds.
For the visitors Igor Mijajlovic finished with 12 points and Darko Radulovikj scored 11.
