Rilski Sportist crushed Kavala at home to finish the first phase in style

Rilski Sportist finished in first place of group B of EUROHOLD Balkan League. The team from Samokov ended the first phase in style after crushing Kavala 100-71 at home. With Teodo winning against OKK both Rilski and Kavala go to the Top 6 with 2 wins and 2 losses. In this game the hosts had a great shooting from the 3-point lane as they made 18 out of 33 attempts. The next phase will start on January 22nd.
Rilski Sportist scored the first 4 points of the game but then Kavala answered with 5 straight to take the lead. After both teams exchanged baskets but with a 7-0 run the visitors went up by 5 points. After that Terry Smith scored three straight 3-pointetrs that capped a 9-0 run for the hosts as they took a 21-17 lead with 02.40 to play in the quarter. Rilski kept the advantage in the following minutes also thanks to a wild finish to the quarter. First Braxton Dupree scored a lay up with 10 seconds to go, then Branko Mirkovic stole the ball and pаssed to Smith who scored his fifth triple of the quarter. This gave the American 17 points in the first ten minutes and the hosts were up 30-23.
Rilski continued to play well in the second quarter and it started with a big run for the hosts. They started with 15-2 in almost six minutes and their lead went up to 20 points, 45-25. The hosts managed to hold on to their big lead and it even went up to 23. Rilski had a chance to increased but couldn′t convert on it and Kavala scored the last points in the first half as it finished 52-31 in favour of the home team.
Kavala scored the first 4 points in the third quarter and for a minute it looked like the team might try to make a comeback. The hosts though didn′t allow this to happen as they capitalized on the mistakes of their opponents and their advantage continued to grow. Rilski′s lead went up to 28 points and later Kavala cut down some of it. However the home team didn′t stop and after 30 minutes had a 30-point lead, 85-55. In the last ten minutes with the winner already clear both what was left was just to know the final difference. Rilski′s advantage went as high as 34 points and at the end it went down to 29.
Top scorer for the hosts was Branko Mirkovic with 29 points who added also 7 assists. Terry Smith finished with 25 points and Hristo Zahariev added 13.
For the visitors 16 points had Steven Panos and Dimitris Kalambakas added 14.
