Levski won in Kavala and moved to the first place in Top 6

Levski is now the sole leader in Top 6 of EUROHOLD Balkan League. The Blues from Sofia defeated BC Kavala away 77-73 in a dramatic game and moved to the top of the second stage. They have 4 wins and 2 losses while Rilski Sportist, Kumanovo and Kavala all have 3-3 record. Next game for BC Kavala will be on February 27th when the team will visit KK Kumanovo 2009 while on March 6th BC Levski will host KK Teodo.
Both teams exchanged baskets in the first minutes as Levski made the first run of 6 straight points and went up 11-7. The visitors continued to have a small advantage until the end of the quarter which they finished leading 18-14. David Tairu scored a triple for the hosts to start the second one but then Levski scored 7 unanswered points and went up 25-17. They held on to their lead for a few minutes but at one point Kavala made 8-0 run and after Gregor Arbet three-pointer took the lead. However Levski responded scoring the last two baskets of the first half and it finished 33-31 for The Blues.
The second half started with 4 straight points for the visitors as they took a 6-point lead. In the next minutes they continued to have the advantage without being able to pull further away. At one points The Blues managed to make a 6-0 run and the difference went up to 10 points with 02.40 minutes to play in the quarter. Kavala scored the next 5 points and after the teams exchanged one free throw after 30 minutes Levski had the lead at 56-51.
Levski scored the first 5 points of the last quarter but then Kavala responded with 7 and cut down the deficit to just 3. Then Marko Marinovic scored a very important triple, then made a steal and a few moments later Stefan Georgiev scored a basket and a free throw so the lead went up to 9 points. The Blues had another basket which increased the lead to 11 with 5 minutes go play. Kavala did respond with a great 9-0 run that cut the deficit to just 2 points with two minutes to go. The hosts did tie the game and then both teams exchanged basket for 72-72 with 70 seconds to play. Then Marinovic made two free throws and Tairu responded with just one. In the last offense for Levski the team missed which left Kavala with 21 second to attack. Igor Milosevic though made a mistake, Zlatin Georgiev stoled the ball and scored a three-pointer in the last second.
Chavdar Kostov was the top scorer for the winners with 22 points. 13 apiece had Zlatin Georgiev and Marko Marinovc with the Serbian making 7 assists as well.
For the home team 15 points apiece had Igor Milosevic and Kieron Achara while 14 scored David Tairu.
