Galil Gilboa won the first game in EUROHOLD Balkan League for 2014

BC Galil Gilboa started very well the new year in EUROHOLD Balkan League. In the first game of the competition for January, the current champions defeated SCM U Craiova 80-70 away and confirmed their status as one the top teams in the standings. Galil now has 5 wins and 2 losses which is just a win behind the leaders Kumanovo but with a game in hand. Craiova on the other side now stand at 3-5 record and is 6th. Next week the team will host KK Kumanovo 2009 while Galil will play at home against BC Balkan.
 
The visitors started better and scored the first 6 points of the match. They led for most of the first quarter, even by 8 at one time, but Craiova managed to move in front at the end of it after a 12-2 finish. The hosts scored the first 4 points of the second quarter but Galil responded with a 15-0 run to take the lead by 8 points and then 5 at the break.
 
In the second half both teams fought hard as Galil led but Craiova was trying to overcome them. In the third quarter the hosts tied the score but then just couldn′t take the advantage. In the last ten minutes they continued to try but every time they got close, Galil had an answer. The match was decided with three minutes to go when the visitors scored 5 straight points to increase the lead to 8 and that secured the win.
 
DeShawn Sims had a very good game for the winners with 25 points and 6 rebounds. Gerald Robinson scored 22 points as Rick Jackson had a double double of 12 points and 11 boards.
 
For the home team 13 points apiece scored Bogdan Popescu and LeVar Seals as Travis Bureau added 12.
