A new technology was used during CAN DO BASKETBALL camp in Samokov

In the last days in Samokov, Bulgaria, was held the 21st edition of CAN DO BASKETBALL referees camp created by Allan Richardson. During the camp was used a new video technology - GoPro, as the camera was put on the head of the referees. Thanks to that camera weer analyzed the movement of the referees and their performance. Here is the explanation for the new technology from the part of Bulgarian organizers and also from the Owner of the camp Allan Richardson:   "This year was the fifth straight that CAN DO BASKETBALL camp was held in Bulgaria. The new thing is that we used new methods for work and preparation for the referees. They were installed a little bit risky in the education programme but gave us tremendous results. It can be said that they are more than positive. This year we used camera thanks to which every single one of the referees can see his position in each moment. There were included also special programmes with the help of with in real time can be made evaluation of every given situation.   The interesting thing in the camp is considered that those technical devices for permanent work from Bulgarian referees as well."     Here is also the explanation of the Owner of the camp Mr. Allan Richardson:   "We had the biggest number of participants that we ever had in the history - 82 referees from 28 countries. From one side that is very positive but from the other it′s a little bit negative because we have a lot of people to look after. We had the excellent opportunity to use new technology - GoPro cameras and I think this new technology will be very important in the near future. We not only make the video recordings but using the GoPro technology will give us a better view to where the referees are looking and by this we can compare both views. By this combining both videos we are almost creating 3D. This is a big development plus the fact that we showed some new presentations except the popular ones that we show every year. I think the quality of the group this year was higher and most comments I heard from the instructors are that the people improved from the start of the camp for only three games.   Generally I′m very happy. Of course we have a very good staff around us - instructors, technicians, everyone. This is why I′m very happy.   I don′t know if FIBA will spend money for the new technology but surely I will recommend it to FIBA Europe to use it in non-examination clinics. I think it was a lot of positive advantages. Today with all those technologies the prices will eventually go down.   I think the idea to have boys and girls this year was very good. We have a lot of ladies at the camp but I′m not saying that ladies should officiate only women games and men to officiate men games. This gives opportunity to everyone to see the standart of the women and men basketball. And because this is official competition everything is more serious. In the past without such an official competition the games were not so competitive."
