04-02-2015 | 00:31
KB Peja recorded a very important win at the start of group C from the Second Stage in EUROHOLD Balkan League. The team hosted KK Mornar and took 87-80 victory after some crazy moments. With this result Peja is now with 3-0 record and is first in the standings while Mornar has 1-2 record. Next week Peja will host SCM U Craiova while Mornar will welcome Kumanovo. In this match Peja played great defense in the third quarter which put the team up. It was the decisive moment as Mornar tried to come back but fell short at the end.
In the first two quarters the game was close with both teams exchanging lead. Still the hosts led for most of the time and at the break they had a 4-point edge. Then a few minutes after the start of the third quarter Peja made a 20-0 run which opened up an advantage of 25 points and this is what the difference was after 30 minutes. Incredibly enough Mornar didn′t give up and played great offense in the last quarter to cut the deficit. With 7-0 run the visitors closed the gap to only 3 points with 20 seconds to go but it was not enough as Peja sealed the game from the free throw line.
Drilon Hajrizi was the top scorer for the winners with 21 points as Janou Rubin had 16 and 7 assists in his debut.
Nikola Korac had 18 points and 8 assists for the visitors while Ivan Jelenic had 17 points.
