BIBL congratulates Rilski Sportist for the 1st Bulgarian Cup!

Rilski Sportist won the second trophy in the club′s history. After winning the Balkan League back in 2009, now the team from Samokov took also the Cup of Bulgaria. It′s been a long 7-year waiting for Rilski for a new trophy as the team was improving season after season thanks also to its participation in BIBL. It was back in 2008 when the team′s rise started and the jump was first culminated with winning the Balkan League, then reaching the Cup final in 2010, BIBL finals in 2011 and 2015 and now winning the Bulgarian cup.

In the final Rilski defeated the champions Lukoil Academic 90-80. The team from Samokov was down by 7 at the break but played very well in the second half. They managed to make some good runs and after 7-0 to end the third, the lead jumped to 9 points. In the final quarter Rilski was hanging on to the lead and managed to take the trophy.

Frank Turner finished with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners while Tony Gugino added 20 points.

BIBL congratulates the president of Rilski Sportist - Mr. Petar Georgiev, the head coach - Rosen Barchovski and all the players on winning the Cup!
