Peja holds off for a crucial win in Sofia

KB Peja recorded a very important win in group D of SIGAL-UNIQA Balkan League. The team visited BC Levski 2014 in Sofia and won 91-87 after a hard fought match that had to be decided in the final minute. The visitors took a big lead early but the hosts came back and were close to completing a big comeback. With that important win Peja moved up to second place in the group with 2-2 record while Levski is fourth with 1-3. Next week Peja will visit Kozuv in another very important meeting while The Blues will host Sigal Prishtina.

 

For the first four minutes the game was close and the visitors were up by only 2. Then they made a 13-2 run which made the advantage 13 but Levski managed to close it to 9. After a good start of the second period Peja and 12-2 run, the lead reached 19 points. Then finally the hosts improved their performance and started coming back in the game. Levski was closing its deficit steadily and it came down to 6 points with 30 seconds to play in the half. Then Peja had a few chances to score and after Covington triple at the buzzer they were up by 9 after 20 minutes.

 

Peja stayed in front after the break as well but Levski was right there. Shortly after the middle of the third quarter the visitors led by 11 but The Blues responded with 9-0 run to cut the gap to just 2. With a minute to go in the period Peychinov scored a triple to tie the score and in the next offense Simeonov put his team up by 1 with one made free throw. Then Peja missed once again and after Slaveykov scored Levski′s lead was 3 after three quarters. 

 

The visitors tied early in the last period but moments later the hosts made 5-0 run. Peja again tied the score with 6 minutes to play but Simeonov answered. Then the visitors made a 6-0 run to go up by 4 but with 1.21 to go Minchev cut the deficit to 2. Burwell however responded for Peja to again make it a 4-point game but Hadzhirusev closed it to 2. Covington was fouled and scored both free throws and it sealed the outcome. 

 

Nenad Delic was the top performer for the winners with 25 points and 7 rebounds. Kevin Burwell finished with 19 points as 15 apiece scored Ronald Davis and Drilon Hajrizi who didn′t finish the game after exchanging words with his head coach in the third quarter.

 

Stanislav Slaveykov played a very good game for the home side with 25 points and 9 rebounds while Aleks Simeonov had double-double with 20 and 12.
