Mornar escapes with the win in Prizren in the last 25 seconds
KK Mornar recorded second straight win in group C of SIGAL-UNIQA Balkan League group C. The team from Bar visited Bashkimi and took 80-74 victory despite being down for most of the time. The game went to the wire and was decided in the last 25 seconds. Both teams fought very hard and both deserved the win. The experience of Mornar′s played paid off at the end and they took another victory in their way to the semifinals.
Now to qualify for the Top 4 Mornar needs to defeat Teodo at home in the last round. The team from Bar can qualify also with a defeat but will also need Beroe to lose in Prizren. Bashkimi on the other side is now 100% eliminated from the competition and will play only for its pride in the last match. The team however deserves praise for the way it fought so far and surely will do so in the last game against Beroe.
It was a tight game for the whole first half with both teams exchanging baskets and leads. Neither Bashkimi nor Mornar managed to take a big lead in the first quarter but in the second the hosts went up by 7. Then the visitors made 8-0 run to respond but Bashkimi answered right back and after Uzas triple took a 4-point advantage. Then both teams exchanged two points before Lamont Jones scored at the buzzer to cut the deficit to 2 after 20 minutes.
In the second half Bashkimi kept leading and with 3.14 to play in the third quarter the advantage was increased to 9 points. Then the teams exchanged baskets but Mornar answered with 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 2 after 30 minutes.
With three minutes played in the fourth quarter the visitors tied the score and it remained like this for a long period of time. Then with 2.35 to go Marko Mijovic hit a triple to give Mornar a 4-point advantage and after Bashkimi missed Mugosa scored on a fast break for +6. The hosts though didn′t give up and with 6-0 tied the score again with 37.8 seconds to play. In the next offense Mijovic made a great drive to the basket and found Sampson under the basket who dunked with 25 seconds on the clock. Bashkimi had the chance to tie but Shehu was called for a travel and after Jones was fouled with 17 seconds to go made both free throws and sealed the outcome.
Mornar used its size and dominate on the offensive glass. The team from Bar had 18 offensive rebounds which led to 16 second chance points while Bashkimi had only 2 points after offensive boards.
Lamont Jones was the top scorer for the winners with 25 points as he dished out 7 assists. Robert Sampson and Balsa Radunovic both had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds and 14 and 10 respectively.
Rokas Uzas was the top scorer for the hosts with 20 points while Tay Waller played a great all-around game finishing with 19 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists.
