Kozuv survives against Peja to take a very important win
KK Kozuv took a very important win in round 5 of group D in SIGAL-UNIQA Balkan League. The team from Gevgelija hosted KB Peja and won 72-67 after playing good defense in the third quarter. Both teams fough very hard with the hosts taking a double-digit lead near the end. Peja though didn′t stop playing and almost made an incredible comeback. Kozuv finally held on for the win and it was important for the team that it was by 5 points which gives them the advantage in eventual tie with Peja. In the last round Kozuv will visit Levski 2014 and will qualify for the semifinals with a win. In the same time Peja will host Sigal Prishtina and will hope to win and Kozuv to lose which will take them through to the top 4.
Both teams exchanged baskets early but Peja was the first to pull away after making a 6-0 run. The visitors lead reached 8 points moments later but Kozuv managed to cut it to 2. After one quarter Peja was up by 4 and continued to have the advantage. The kept leading in the second as well with the lead again reaching 8 points. Kozuv though stayed in the match and closed the gap to 5 at the break.
Peja scored the first two points of the second half but then both teams started missing. Kozuv used that and responded with 8-0 run to go up by 1. The visitors finally scored but the hosts then made 9-2 run go take 6-point advantage and then 5 after 30 minutes.
Peja cut the lead with a triple early in the fourth but White answered it right back and soon Kozuv went up by 9. Later another three-pointer by White made the difference 10 points with six minutes left and three later the game was practically over. The hosts hit another triple that increased the advantage to 14 but Peja didn′t give up and closed the gap to only 4 with less than a minute to go. However with 38 seconds on the clock Brckov scored another three-pointer but Delic hit back with 2+1 play. Penn made two free throws after that but Covington answered with a triple to cut the deficit to 3 with 8 seconds to play. Then Nesovic also made two free throws and fixed the final score.
Vladimir Brckov was the top scorer for the winners with 20 points while also adding 6 rebounds. Brandon Penn added 16 points and 7 rebounds while Aleksej Nesovic scored 15 points and had 7 steals.
Nenad Delic had double-double with 22 points and 15 rebounds for the visitors as Kevin Burwell added 19 points.
