Beroe tops Bashkimi to go through to the semifinals
BC Beroe is through to the semifinals in SIGAL-UNIQA Balkan League in its first season in the competition. The team from Stara Zagora recorded its second straight win in group C after downing KB Bashkimi 88-70 away in Prizren. With that victory the Bulgarian team secured its place in the Top 4 regardless of the result in the game between Mornar and Teodo. That match was won by Mornar and as both teams finished with 4-2 record the first place is for the Montenegrin side due to the better record in the games between them. Tomorrow evening both teams will know who their opponent for the semifinal will be.
Beroe had a good start to the game and in less than four minutes were up 12-5. Then the visitors controlled the match and had even a double digit lead for a short period of time. After ten minutes Beroe was up by 8 and then controlled the difference in the second quarter. After the middle of it The Greens made 8-2 run to go up by 15 but didn′t score a single points in the last three minutes of the first half. Bashkimi used that and finished with 7-0 run before the break to cut the deficit to only 8.
In the first minutes of the third quarter the visitors lead by 7-8 points before they made a 7-0 run to go up by 14. Bashkimi cut some of the deficit do close it to 11 but the period finished with another 7-0 run for Beroe to go up by 18 after 30 minutes. In the last ten the visitors had no problems and cruised on to take the victory.
The difference between the two teams came from the 3-point shooting. Both sides had 24 attempts but Beroe made 12 of them while Bashkimi hit 6.
Ashton Moore was the top scorer for the winners with 22 points. Auston Barnes had 15 and 5 rebounds while Evrik Gary scored 13 points. The three players hit three triples each.
For the home side Theron Bussey had 21 points as Rokas Uzas added 14, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
