Beroe gave no chance to the champions

BC Beroe started with convincing win the new season in SIGAL-UNIQA Balkan League. The team from Stara Zagora did against the current champions KB Sigal Prishtina and won 86-71 at home. A great second quarter and good performance in defense were the key for the success as the visitors didn′t have a chance in the second half.

It was an even start to the game as both teams exchanged points. With the score tied early in the second quarter Beroe managed to pull away after scoring 8 straight points. Then the visitors answered but the Stara Zagora team hit with a 15-3 run to make their advantage 18 points. Sigal scored the next 8 to cut the deficit and then Beroe added 4 of their own but the difference at the break came down to 11 points because Bojan Trajkovski scored a triple at the buzzer.

After the break the hosts controlled the game and their lead wasn′t going down. They were ahead comfortably and at the end took a deserved victory.

Beroe scored a total of 12 triples on 31 attempts while Sigal was 7 of 21. The hosts also forced their opponents to make 24 turnovers, 19 of them in the first half.

Shane Gibson had a very good game for the winners with 23 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Stjepan Tesija also did well with 17 points and 5 rebounds while 11 points apiece had Omari Gudul and Aaron Jones.

Bojan Trajkovski had 22 points and 5 rebounds for the visiting team as Jabarie Hinds added 11 points.
