Beroe holds on for a precious win in Gevgelija

BC Beroe recorded second straight impressive victory in group A of SIGAL-UNIQA Balkan League. The team from Stara Zagora visited KK Kozuv in Gevgelija and won 86-80 after a hard fougth match. Both teams wanted badly the win and gave their all to take it. However the visitors played very good defense in the last three minutes and didn′t allow a single points which helped them to get the victory. Next week Beroe will host Bashkimi and will look to make it 3 ot of 3 while Kozuv will travel to Montenegro to play KK Teodo.

 

Beroe started the game very well and in less than five minutes had a 17-4 lead. The visitors continued to have a good advantage in the first quarter but a 7-0 start to the second for the hosts tied the score. Then they even took the lead but not for long as the Stara Zagora team bounced back. The visitors regained the advantage but at the break had an edge of only a point.

 

Kozuv led early in the second half but then Beroe again restored the advantage after which both teams started exchanging baskets. Either the score was tied or the visitors had a little edge and shortly after the middle of the fourth period Kozuv made it 77-77. Then the teams scored 3 points each as after that Aleksiev responded with a triple. What followed was more than a minute without scoring and then Beroe went 4 points up and the team held on for the win.

 

Shane Gibson had a great game for the winners hitting 8 triples on his way to 33 points. Omari Gudul finished with 23 and 7 rebounds as Plamen Aleksiev added 9 points. 


Kenyon McNeail was the top performer for the home side with 28 points and 5 assists while Robert Abramovic had 18 points.
