Sutjeska goes top after a drama with Karpos Sokoli

KK Sutjeska is now very very close to the Second Stage of SIGAL-UNIQA Balkan League. The team went top of group B after downing KK Karpos Sokoli 2000 85-81 at home. With that result Sutjeska now has 4-1 record and two wins over its opponent who is at 1-4.  The game was decided in the final minutes when the hosts completed a comeback and won in the dying seconds. Next week Karpos will visit Peja while on December 7th Sutjeska will travel to meet the same team.

After an even start the hosts had some good minutes to go up by 7 points. They led until the end of the first period and with 11-2 start of the second went up by 13. After that the hosts controlled the game until the break and had a very good advantage of 12 points.

Things changed in the third quarter when Karpos went out a different team. Still the hosts were leading but finally the visitors clicked on defense and with 13-2 run in the final 6.20 minutes of the period went on to lead by 1. The fourth one was very close but with 3.30 to go Karpos went up by 5. Soon though the hosts made a 6-0 run to take the lead but Labovic scored to put the visitors ahead. The the hosts missed but the visitors couldn′t take advantage and were called for 5 seconds violation. Sutjeska didn′t miss its chance and first Gajovic hit two free throws, then Karpos made a mistake and Gajovic scored a triple to decide the outcome with 22 seconds on the clock.

Goran Gajovic was the top performer for the win with 21 points and 5 rebounds. Djoko Salic did well with 18 and 6 while Jermayne Thomas had 17 points.

Dragan Labovic was the top scorer for the visitors with his 18 points. Darko Sokolov did well with 16 and 6 rebounds as Goran Vrbanc added 14 points.
