Bashkimi helds on to defeat the champions
KB Bashkimi recorded a very important win in group A of SIGAL-UNIQA Balkan League. The Prizren team hosted the champions KB Sigal Prishtina and showed big heart to win it 85-74. The visitors were the better in the first minutes but the energy of the home side players changed the things and at the end they held on to the precious win. It′s Bashkimi′s second in a row after four straight defeats while for Sigal it was second defeat from two games. On Thursday the champions will host KK Kumanovo 2009 while Bashkimi′s next game as away against the same Macedonian opponent.
Sigal had a very good start of the game by hitting the first 7 points and led after. The visitors had a double-digit advantage but Locke hit a triple at the buzzer of the first quarter to cut the deficit to 8. Bashkimi closed the gap in the second but Sigal kept holding on to its lead. However that changed with 1.51 before the break when Kejuan Johnson hit an amazing triple to give the hosts their first advantage of the game. Those three points were part of a 12-0 run to end the first half after which Bashkimi was up by 7 points.
Shortly after the break the advantage reached 11 and the hosts held it for some time. Sigal however made a 7-0 run to close the gap to 5 points and moments later it even went down to just 3. The hosts though answered with 7-0 and after Azemi scored a put back at the buzzer, Bashkimi was up by 8 points after 30 minutes. With little more than four minutes in to the last period the hosts made the advantage 14 but then they stopped scoring and with 9-0 Sigal came back to the game with 2.21 to play. Then finally Jazvin found a basket for the hosts but Rhett did the same on the other side. The visitors had two chances to close the gap even more but missed them and with 27 seconds to go Biraj triple decided the outcome.
Bashkimi hit 12 triples on 34 attempts which compared to 7 of 24 for Sigal turned out to be a big difference.
Kejuan Johnson had another monster game for the winners finishing with 29 points, 9 assists, 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Eric Palm also did well and added 18 points while Ermin Jazvin had 12 and 16 rebounds.
Malcolm Rhett and Andrew Lawrence had 16 points apiece for the visitors while Jabarie Hinds added 12.
