Domestic leagues: Winning start for Akademik and Levski, rough defeat for Rilski
BC Akademik Bultex 99 started the new season in Bulgarian NBL with a win. The team hosted Yambol and had a hard time before taking a 78-72 victory.
The home side led from start to finish thanks to a great 3-point shooting. Akademik scored 15 triples from 31 attempts which compared to just 3 from 12 for Yambol was a key factor. The visitors were still trying hard but came up just short at the end.
Isiah Umipig had 22 points for the win as Martin Durchev added 14.
BC Levski 2014 also started with a win after downing Cherno more 88-62 away. The Blues had some trouble against the young team from Varna in the first half but Levski controlled the match and the win wasn′t in any doubt.
Aleks Simeonov had 21 points and 13 rebounds for the victory as Nikola Maravic added 14 and 10.
BC Rilski Sportist visited the champions Lukoil Academic and were beaten 75-95. The hosts started very well and took a 13-point advantage after the first quarter and never looked back after that.
Derick Wright had 18 points for Rilski as Dimitar Marincheshki finished with 14.
