Akademik stays perfect after a drama in Kumanovo

Akademik Bultex 99 kept its perfect record from the start of the season. The Plovdiv team won a thriller in Kumanovo after downing 90-86 the hosts in overtime. The visitors missed a chance to win in the fourth period but kept their cool in the extra time and left home with a victory. With it they are leading the standings with 3-0 record while Kumanovo is now with 1-2.

The game was really close in the first half with the visitors having a 3-point edge. They did better in the third period as well and were having a good advantage. After the end of it the difference was 6 points and it stayed in that range for a long time. However Kumanovo finished the game with a 7-1 run to tie the score and send the match in to an extra period.

With 1:12 to play in the overtime Akademik went up by 6 but still the hosts never gave up. In just 17 seconds they closed the gap to just 2 but then Martin Durchev had the final answer. He scored a lay up and after he was fouled but he missed the free throw. In the next offense Kumanovo didn′t score and the game was over.

Martin Durchev had a great game for the winners and finished with 28 points. Manuel Johnson added 14 and 9 rebounds as Shakir Smith scored 13 points.

Once again the hosts were led by Dimitar Karadjovski who had 23 points and 9 assists and Marjan Janeski who had 18 points and 12 rebounds.
