Domestic leagues: Important wins for Rilski and Akademik, heartbreaking loss for Levski
Rilski Sportist continued its impressive run of form in recent weeks. The Samokov team defeated Balkan 86-71 at home to move to second place in Bulgaria. The hosts had a 9-0 run in the first period to go up and they held on the lead after that. Balkan came back to 1 but 11-0 run again gave Rilski a good advantage which was kept until the end.
Travis Taylor had a very good game with 24 points as Yordan Bozov added 13.
Akademik Bultex 99 also had a really important win after downing Beroe 94-91 away. The Plovdiv team played great for two and a half quarter when the lead reached 27 points. However Beroe not only came back but cut the deficit to just 2 with 42 seconds to play. Akademik though held on and took this precious win.
Martin Durchev, Stanislav Vaklinov and the new signing Cedrick Bowen all had 19 points for the win.
Levski 2014 played a good game but suffered a heartbreaking 78-84 home defeat against the champions Lukoil Academic. The Blues did really well and were up for a lot of the time but at the end of the third period Lukoil came back and tied the game. In the fourth one both teams exchanged baskets and while Levski missed some open shots at the end, the visitors didn′t and won.
Stanimir Marinov had 21 points for Levski as Veselin Veselinov added 15.
Rilski Sportist is tied for second with 6-2 record while Akademik follows in fourth with 5-3. After that defeat Levski is 5th with 4-4.
