Domestic leagues: Rilski keeps the first place, Levski and Akademik also win
BC Rilski Sportist kept the first place in the Bulgarian league after the games over the weekend. The Samokov team visited Spartak Pleven and won 105-89 a high scoring affair. It was a close first quarter as both teams scored 59 teams and the hosts led by one. In the second Rilski continued to put the ball in the basket but played better defense and went up by 18 at the break. That was more than enough as the visitors held on to the lead until the end.
Evan Ravenel had 28 points and 10 rebounds for the win as Martin Marinov and Travis Taylor scored 16 points apiece.
The first game for Levski Lukoil was successful as the team defeated Beroe 81-74 away. The Blues played well in the second period to go up by 16 at the break but in the final quarter the hosts closed the gap to just 6. They kept trying for a comeback but it wasn′t meant to be.
Justin Knox was the top scorer for the win with 15 points as Hristo Nikolov had 14.
BC Akademik Bultex 99 took an important win after beating Balkan 80-70 at home. The hosts made a big 15-0 run in the first period to go p by 11 and were up by 13 at the break. In the second half Balkan not only came back but tied the score only for Akademik to respond and secure the win.
Newly signed Dimitar Dimitrov had 25 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the win as the other new player Nikola Maravic had 18 points and 8 rebounds.
Rilski Sportist is first in the standings with 9 wins and 3 defeats. Levski Lukoil is second with 8-4 record while Akademik comes in 5th place with 7-5.
